Parish Council Update
August has been a quiet month for the Parish Council with the annual recess and no formal meetings, however activities to support you all have continued around holiday schedules.
Behind the scenesThere are always jobs to be done, some not so visible, but non the less important to enable the Parish Council to deliver services to the community.
We have taken the opportunity for some much-needed de-cluttering in the village hall with the removal and recycling of old equipment and broken furniture etc. We have also embarked on a very overdue IT upgrade to provide a secure, collaborative environment to streamline council business and communication.
Following the play equipment inspections reported last month several repairs and maintenance tasks have been completed.
An electrical safety check, remediation/repairs and certification across all Parish Council facilities have also been completed.
Sports facilities and clubs.
We are pleased to support our village sports clubs through grants and access to facilities, helping them to offer great opportunities for all ages and capabilities.
It’s really great to see the cricket square back in use and the club celebrating 10 years – look out for the flyers for a fun day on the 27th of September and your opportunity play against them in a fun match as part of a village community team.
The hot weather continues to be a blessing and also a challenge for the sports teams and facilities – we have started ground improvement works across the playing fields, but this year’s exceptional dryness combined with 2 years of neglect have taken it’s toll so recovery is likely to take longer that hoped.
The bowling green (or should that be yellow) always looks busy whenever I pass – it must be particularly challenging keeping the ground playable at the moment.
The Papworth Blasters are back and have started training, we wish them all good luck for the new season.
Congratulations to the bowls and tennis clubs who have had multiple wins this season.
Planning
There are no new planning applications in the village this month – the proposed conversion of the old fire station to a Premier store and the conversion of the old nurse’s home to a SEN school are both in planning review still.
On the 2nd of September there is an opportunity to find out more about the GREATER CAMBRIDGE LOCAL PLAN – and particularly the CAMBOURNE NORTH PROPOSAL. This is a significant long-term development that will see 13000 new homes and supporting infrastructure encompassing the East West rail station on the northern side of the A428 opposite the existing Cambourne town. There is a drop-in event hosted by the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning (GCSP) service at the Village Hall in the North Hall on Wednesday 2nd September 4:30 and 7:30.
