August Report
Happy Birthday Mandy
We would like to mention first how very grateful the Day Centre is for the advert produced by editors Janet and Peter Dobson to help us recruit a new Volunteer Treasurer. The advert was placed on the News & Views website and included lovely artwork created by Peter.
At the time of writing we are still looking for a Treasurer. Please ring Jeff on 01480 880441 for a friendly chat without obligation. Jeff is needing to retire as Treasurer, so a new one is needed to help keep the Day Centre going. All the clients go home having thoroughly enjoyed their day, so the Day Centre is very worthwhile to be involved with.
The aim of the Day Centre is to provide a welcome social event and a meal for elderly, isolated or lonely clients each week on Tuesdays. There are no minimum age or ability requirements. New clients and volunteers are always welcome.
On 25th August we celebrated Mandy’s birthday with Sherry or Apple Juice. In the morning we played one of our favourite games called ‘Buckets’ as a change from our usual Dominoes, crafting and Scrabble. Mandy cooked a lovely sausage and mashed potato with vegetables and gravy for lunch. In the afternoon we were entertained by Charlie Chaplin who sung Day Centre favourites such as ‘That’ll be the Day’, ‘Love Letters in the Sand’, ‘Living Doll’, Sweet Caroline’.
On 18th August we celebrated Bill’s birthday with Sherry or Apple Juice, with cake made by Sylvia in the afternoon. We didn’t have an outside entertainer so we entertained ourselves with a T.V. theme tune quiz. The concept was Carol’s idea.
On 11th August we had another welcome visit from Jukebox Legend Fiona McLean who got may people singing and dancing to favourites such as ‘Sweet Nothings’, ‘Stupid Cupid’, ‘Dream Lover’, ‘Let’s Twist Again’, ‘Great Balls of fire’. Lunch was a lovely quiche with potatoes and Salad, and Lemon Meringue Pie.
On 28th of July we celebrated Ken’s birthday who is now ninety four. We celebrated in usual style with Sherry or Shloer.
On 4th August we had great fun playing bingo. The prizes were frugal: a fruit pastel from the packet, but the excitement of winning was still present. Lunch was pasta bolognese with lovely soft garlic bread, with fruit with jelly and cream to finish.
